Skip was a retired employee of The Elmira Water Board. Skip was pre-deceased by his daughter , Kimberly A. Aloi on May 27 ,1992 ; his mother , Fannie M. Sedinger Aloi, on March 24 ,1997 ; his brother , James E. Aloi , on June 4 , 1981 ; and by his sister-in-law , Nancy Schneck Aloi , on May 31 , 1990. Skip is survived by his father Samuel J. Aloi of Elmira , NY ; grandson : Ranado Aloi of Elmira , NY ; several aunts , uncles , nieces , nephews, cousins , and a host of friends. Anna May Bulow Mace Age 65, of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, surrounded by her family in Alpine, NY, following a courageous battle with cancer. Anna is survived by her sons, Tracey H. Mace Jr. of Elmira, NY, and Patrick (Mary) Mace of Alpine, NY; grandchildren, Ryan T., Brittany Ann, Tracie Ann, Patrick Jr., and April Mace; brothers, Robert Carson and William Carson, both of Elmira, NY; sister, Denise Hefner of Elmira, NY; several nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Tracey H. Mace, Sr. on August 6, 2000. Anna May was an avid outdoors person; she loved fishing and hunting, and was very good at both. Anna May also enjoyed small animals, and especially liked feeding wild squirrels. William J., Sr. Age 68, of Perkins Ave., Horseheads, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 19, 2006, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where he was supported and surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Elmira, NY, the son of the late John Boniface and Lucia (Bonsignore) Cantando. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Elizabeth "Libby" (Kline) Cantando; daughters and sons, Julia (Capt. Colin, USN) Chaffee of Burke, VA, Lisa (Edward) Lill of Sarasota, FL, William Jr. (Susan) Cantando of Horseheads, NY, Michael (Beth) Cantando, also of Horseheads, NY, Thomas (McKensey) Cantando of Ellicott City, MD, Steven (Mary Pat) Cantando of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Sarah and Marissa Chaffee, Shanann and Audrey Cantando, Michael, Nicholas, Corey and Anna Cantando, Anthony and Vincent Cantando, Victoria, Dominic, Katherine, McKensey Cantando; brother, Nicholas (Antoinette) Cantando of Elmira, NY; sisters-in-law, Philomena Cantando of Elmira Heights, Lorraine Cantando of New England; and brothers-in-law, Donald Hamilton of Big Flats and Robert Woods of Elmira, NY; and many nieces, nephews, and many dear friends and neighbors. Bill was also predeceased by his sisters, Rosemary Hamilton and Philomena Woods; and brothers, Dominic, Anthony and John Cantando. Devout to his faith, Bill was a Communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads as well as assisting as a Eucharistic minister at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and member of the I.A.V in Elmira. He was a retired service agent for US Airways, working at the Elmira Corning Regional Airport for over 32 years. Born and raised in Elmira, Bill graduated from E.F.A. and remained active with St. Anthony's Parish School Alumni. Bill was dedicated to his faith and above all, was passionate toward family values. Always keeping his family first, Bill always gave unselfishly of himself. Bill was proud of his Italian heritage and equally proud of his family. Outside the love of his family, Bill was equally a proud American. His soft and gentle nature will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him. Caparulo, Francis J. Age 74, of Elmira, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 8th, 2014, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Born in Elmira the 10th of July 1939, he was the son of the late Francis R. and Florence (Fossaceca) Caparulo. Surviving is his loving wife and dear friend of 51 years, Joan (Sobkowski) Caparulo; sister, Marietta Davis of Elmira; niece and Godchild, Melissa Davis; Godchildren, Steven Fossaceca and Sara Lowenstein. During his illness Fran was surrounded by special friends, David Hyer and Rose Brooks and John and Linda Cicora. Fran worked for Hilliard Corp. for over 37 years. He was a man of great faith and communicant of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Elmira. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed and valued his family and friends throughout his life. He loved his time spent at the lake and wintering in Myrtle Beach. He was a member of the Sullivan Trail Rod and Gun Club for over 50 years. Margaret Marshall Burch, passed away peacefully with three of her grandchildren by her side, on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 in Watkins Glen, NY. She was born in Florence (now Omaha), Nebraska July 5, 1908, daughter of the late Lee and Cora Crabtree Marshall. A resident of Elmira since 1936, Margaret was a talented and spirited singer, actress and linguist, who taught Music and English in Elmira Public Schools and Elmira College. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Elmira College in 1941 and an M.S in Education in 1963. She was well known and loved for her many years of community service, as a major influence in scouting, active in St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, Park Church Choir, Thursday Morning Musicals, and as a Red Cross First Aid Trainer. She said the secret to a long life was to be happy and busy, something she practiced to the last day of her life. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Hobart A. Burch, who died in 1967, her loving husband, Atty. Anthony Cieri, who died in 1993,and two brothers, Orville and Albert. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Robert and Faye Marshall. She is also survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Burch and husband John Lambros of Charleston WV; son and daughter-in-law Hobart and Jan Burch of Orange Beach AL; Margaret "Mugsie" Burch and David Coolman of Saratoga Springs NY; Linda Burch and Barney Eiserloh; and Coralee Burch and Dave Hannie; fourteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren, with two more due within days. She also leaves behind many close friends and "adoptive" children to whom she opened her heart and her home. CLEARY Francis J. Age 68 of Elmira NY, died Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after a long illness. Francis was born in Elmira NY one of six children to the late James J. and Philomena Emanuel Cleary. He is predeceased by his brother Michael Cleary and sister-in-law Lois Arnold Cleary. Francis is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Lois Ann Wright Cleary; children, with their families, Edward F. and Patricia Cleary of Cleveland OH with children, Kevin and Katie; William G. and Joanne Cleary of Cortland NY with children, Megan, Patrick, Shawn and Casey; Bernadette A. and David Drew of Elmira with children, Rebecca, William and Elana; Jennifer C. and John Frankhouser of New Hope PA with children, Riley, Collin and Reagan; Amy L. and Andrew Leonardi of Raleigh NC; brothers and sister-in-law, James "Sonny" Cleary of Big Flats, Charles "Pudgie" and Diana Cleary of Elmira; sisters, Mary Margaret Poteat with William Truex of Horseheads, Bernadette Tarntino of Elmira; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William and Mary Wright of Guin AL, Paul and Kitty Wright of Decatur GA, Lyle and Jackie Wright of Quincy FL; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Francis was a US Navy veteran. He worked for a short time at Moore Business Forms and later as an agent for Nationwide Insurance. Francis went into the pizza business with his brothers at the start of Pudgie's Pizza franchising. As the business grew the Cleary sisters along with other family members became involved with Pudgie's Pizza. Francis retired from the business several years ago because of health reasons. He was a very giving man with his time, talent and resources. Francis enjoyed thoroughbred racing and, with his brother Michael, owned many thoroughbred horses. Kathryn L., Age 96, of Elmira, died Thursday, October 23, 2003 at home. Miss Daly was born on November 30, 1906, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Sullivan Daly. She is predeceased by her brother, Robert Daly; sisters, Madeleine and Margaret Daly; and niece, Loretta Daly Hughes. Miss Daly graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1924 and from Elmira College in 1928. She also attended Oxford University during the summer of 1937. Miss Daly was a very dedicated English teacher at Elmira Free Academy for forty-one years, until her retirement in 1969. She was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Miss Daly was deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her. Miss Daly is survived by her foster daughter Lucy Schweizer with husband Stuart, of Elmira; grandchildren, Kristina (Jay) Cadwallader of Elmira, Amy (Ari) Lichtenstein of Aruba, and Peter (Kathleen) Schweizer of Elmira; great-grandchildren, Colson Cadwallader and Jed Lichtenstein; nephews, Joseph (Clara) Daly of Horseheads and Robert (Victoria) Daly of Palmyra, NY; nieces, Monica (Bill) Nailen of Seattle, WA, Mary (Bill) Richards of Doylestown, PA, and Margaret Schornstheimer of Elmira; along with many grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Ruth A. (Dutton) Age 66, of 82 Healdville Rd., Hubbardston, MA, died Friday, May 20, in her home. She leaves her husband of 42 years, Russell A. Day; two daughters, Katharine Day of Boston, and Carrie E. Marzec and her husband, James of Whitinsville, MA; two grandchildren, Claudia and Jack Marzec of Whitinsville, MA; one sister, Carol Stelzenmuller and her husband, Vaughn of Rochester, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was an active member of the Bahai community where she served as an assistant to the Auxiliary Board for many years. Born in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of John M. and Katharine C. (Phillips) Dutton, she graduated from Geneseo State University in New York in 1961 and Elmira Free Academy in 1957. Miss Deneen was a former Math Teacher at Elmira Free Academy and was a member of the Elmira Area Retired Teachers and the National Council of Math Teachers and also a Member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary. A communicant of Sts. Peter & Paul's Church, she was also a Secular Carmelite. Miss Deneen was predeceased by first cousin, Elizabeth Nelan Fyda of Zelionople, PA, and Youngstown, OH, on November 16, 2003. She is survived by several cousins: George T. Anthony N. "Tony", Age 74, of Elmira, NY passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 21, 2013. Tony was born October 12, 1938, in Elmira, the son of the late Grace (Lombardi) and Carlo A. Durante. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister Rose Foster, uncle Jerry Lombardi, nephew Mark Travis, and brother-in-law Cliff Miller. Tony is survived by his long- time companion Jacqueline Edwards, Elmira; daughter, with her family, Gina and Kurt Bischoff, Bloomington IL, with children, Aiden, Hunter and Marissa; siblings, Caroline Durante, Texas, Francis Durante, with Judith Johnson, Ithaca, Rita Durante, Albert Durante, Raymond Durante, all of Elmira; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Tony graduated from St. Anthony's Grammar School and EFA, Class of 1957. He worked for Conrail, as an engineer, until his retirement. Tony loved horse racing, traveling and collecting antique cars/convertibles. An avid football fan, he was a "die-hard" Buffalo Bills fan. Tony could be found at area festivals, enjoying good food and good conversation. He could strike up a conversation with anyone! He could be seen riding his bicycle around town, getting his daily exercise. Tony was a life- long communicant of St. Anthony's Church, now Blessed Sacrament Parish, a member of the Sons of Italy, Sayre PA, and a former member of the Elmira Moose Lodge. Louis M. Jr., age 76 of Elmira, NY, passed away very unexpectedly Saturday, August 22nd, 2015 with his dear friend Randy Painton. Louis was born in Elmira, March 15th, 1939. The son of the late Louis M. and Betty (McConnell) Fossaceca Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Peg of Elmira; son, Steven (Lisa) Fossaceca of Utica, NY, Mark (Lisa) Fossaceca of Erin, NY; daughter: Julie (Mark) Fossaceca-Tannen of Parkland, FL, Lori (Tony) Roblyer of Elmira; grandchildren, Rachael, Michael, Katy, Sean, Sarah, Daniel, Matthew, Jeffrey; sister, Dorlene (Bernard) Rosplock of Elmira; brother, James (Jennie) Fossaceca of Sarasota, FL; several nieces, nephews and many special friends including James Sandore along with his canine companion "Chloe". In addition to his parents, Louis is predeceased by his sister, Carol Fossaceca; grandson, Joseph Roblyer. In service to his country, Lou served in the United States Marine Corp., communicant of St. Mary's Church, Past commander of the Italian American Veterans Club, Member of the Pine City Sportsman's Club, Devoted NRA member and the Soaring Eagles Golf Club. He was an avid sportsman. Traveling from coast to coast hunting and fishing, loved to play golf and spend time with devoted friends. Louis was a gifted pitcher for the Marine Corp., and semi-pro ball for the Penn League. He worked for Hilliard Corp. for 37 years and was known for his workplace practical jokes. Mary L.(Guirey) Age 67 of Elmira, NY passed away on Wednesday July 5, 2006 at the Arnot Ogden Medical after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born April 30, 1939 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Richard and Emma Jacobus Guirey. She was also pre-deceased by her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Donald Sniezak, Marty Grabijas, and Verna Monczynski. "Lou" loved doing crossword puzzles, gardening, planting flowers, and bird watching. She also enjoyed helping her daughter with various charities for the community and volunteering at Elcor Nursing Home for several years. "Lou" is survived by her loving and supportive husband Stephen F. Grabijas-Christy (Steve Christy); her loving daughter and best friend Susan A. Swan and her fiancé Lewis Cook and granddaughter Paige Cook; son: Thomas W. Swan of Florida; sister: Ann Lander; brother: Richard Guirey; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ann & Jack Heltman, Char Sniezak, Al Monczynski, and Fran Grabijas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Robert, J., Age 73, of Big Flats and formerly of Franklin Street in Horseheads passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, April 4, 2013. Bob was born August 1, 1939 in Elmira to the late Frank and Helen (Zuris) Gush. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sandra Gush in 1994 and his sister, Marion Clark. His surviving family includes his wife, Debra (Gillis) Gush; daughter, Amy Gush of Corning, NY; son, Jeffrey (Kerry) Gush of Horseheads, NY; stepdaughter, Courtney (Sam) Danna of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Jordan, Kayla Shelby Gush; Jackson and Drake Danna; sister, Patricia Flannigan and brother, Frank Gush. Bob was a graduate of Elmira College and a retired Zone Sergeant in the Horseheads Barracks of the NY State Police. Through his retirement he was also the Town of Big Flats Judge for the last eight years. He was a fixture at the Corning LPGA and proud of being a longtime caddy master there for many years. He also received Volunteer of the Year at the LPGA. Bob was also a member of the American Trooper Association. He was also a active coach for Horseheads Little League and president of Babe Ruth Baseball for many years. He also enjoyed old cars and was proud owner of a 1960 Ford T-Bird. Florence, Age 85, passed away Monday, November 26, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital after receiving exceptional and loving care from all the staff and physicians. Florence was born on July 9th, 1916 in New York City. She is survived by: brothers; George Haig of Elmira, NY, Richard Haig and his wife Jeanne of Danby, NY, nephews; Dan Haig and wife Dorothy, Peter Haig and wife Jeanne, Jeff Haig and wife Sylvianne, nieces; Martha Brett and husband Steve, Anna Hovanec and husband Mike and great-nieces and nephews; Valerie, Daniel, Johathan, Lucas, Jessica and Liana. Florence graduated from Hunter College High School, Barnard College, and she earned her Master's Degree from Union College and NYU. She then taught at high schools in Rushville, NY, Madrid, NY, Seneca Falls, NY and in Nichols, NY. Florence then taught at the old Elmira Free Academy and at Corning Community College. During World War II, she was an Air Raid Warden on the Canadian boarder near Madrid, NY. Martin M. Age 83 of Elmira NY died Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Marty was born January 3, 1922 in Dalton, MA a son of Michael M. and Elizabeth Scanlon Harrigan. He is predeceased by his brother James Harrigan and sister Ann Peterson. Marty is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Louise Coleman Harrigan; children, with their families, Michael E. and Wendy Harrigan of Fayetteville, GA with sons Brian and Bradley; John C. and Nancy Harrigan of Johnson City, NY with children, Michael and Brian Palermo and Andrea (Bryan) Bayer; Thomas M. and Christine Harrigan of Tampa, FL with sons, David (Christine) and Kevin; William L. and Cindy Harrigan of Charlotte, NC with daughters, Heather and Megan; James P. Harrigan of Muncie, IN with children, Matthew, Martin M., II and Alicia; and Susan P. and Kristopher Thoren of Pleasant Hill, CA with sons, Daniel and John; great-grandchildren, Rachel Bayer, and Patrick and Kailey Harrigan; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kevin and Mona Coleman of Lincoln, RI and Hope Coleman of Wilmington, NC; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends. Marty was a high school all-star in football, baseball and hockey. He entered Syracuse University in 1940, and might have played football there, but he left school to join the Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps., Marty served in the South Pacific. He was wounded during the battle of Iwo Jima and was awarded the Purple Heart. Marty was a witness to the famous American Flag raising on Iwo Jima. After World War II, Marty returned to Syracuse, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education. It was at this time that he switched from playing sports to coaching. Family was most important to him, but his community was also important. Marty was involved with many local organizations â€¦â€¦All Sports Committee - Past President, Kiwanis Club - Past President, Board of Director for CYO, Camp Iroquois (YMCA), Jewish Community Day Camp, LPGA, Glove House, Elmira Pioneers, Arctic League, American Cancer Society, and Chemung County Youth Bureau; a member of the Community Budget Committee and the Ernie Davis Statue and Scholarship Committee. He was the recipient of many local honors and awardsâ€¦. Outstanding Educator, St. Joseph's Hospital Centurion, Community Builder, Section 4 Sports Hall of Fame and Elmira Football Hall of Fame, Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America and Teachers Recognition Award from the Eagles. Marty was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rex Field Post #901, American Legion Post #443, Elmira Elks Lodge #62, Ancient Order of Hibernians Msgr. John J. Lee Division, Knights of Columbus Council #229, and the E.J. Brewer Detachment of the Marine Corps League. Marty was a devout Catholic and a long time communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Celia E., Retired English Teacher Age 101, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 23, 2003, peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. Hutchinson was born September 10, 1902 in Canadice, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey O. Hutchinson. Surviving family includes a nephew and nieces, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1923 as a Phi Beta Kappa and received a Master's of Education from Harvard University in 1931. In Elmira education for 47 years, she was an English teacher at Southside High School and Elmira Free Academy, later a Guidance Counselor and a Principal of Public Evening School. Mrs. Hutchinson was honored as a Twin Tiers Outstanding Educator in 1998. Her community activities included: Heading the Chemung County Community Ambassador Program, chairing the Interfaith Concert for Chemung County Bicentennial Celebration, chair of Bethany Center Auxiliary, Past President of the Elmira Teachers Association, Life Member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Elmira Garden Club, Board Member of the Elmira Salvation Army, and Elder, Deacon and Trustee of North Presbyterian Church, Elmira. She received a "Woman of Achievement Award" in 1981. She created the Harvey O. Hutchinson Scholarship at the Community Foundation. Rose M., Age 93 of Elmira, NY died Thursday, January 15, 2004. Rose was born May 9, 1910 the daughter of John J. and Helen McCarthy Kingston. She is survived by her nephew Morris Shepard, Jr. with his wife Hester of Hornell, NY; niece Mary Youngman of Elmira Heights along with several great nieces and great nephews. Rose was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy and Elmira College. She was an English Teacher for 40 years at Elmira Free Academy. Rose was a life long communicant of St. Patrick's Church, where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies of St. Anthony's and St. Patrick's. She was a member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, where she was an active volunteer for a number of years. She is predeceased by her brother John and sisters Mary Shepard, Elizabeth and Cecelia Kingston. Mrs. Leahy, daughter of the late Thomas B. and Catharine MacMahon Chambers, was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Leahy on November 6, 1960. She is survived by her sister Eleanor M. Chambers of Elmira; daughter Kathleen Carozza of Horseheads with husband Julius and children Andrew and Stephen Carozza, Susan (Richard) Lawton, Matthew (Lisa) Carozza and Kathleen Carozza; son Thomas Leahy of Danville, CA with wife Nancy and children Ann, Sarah, Thomas J. III and Amy Leahy; daughter Margaret Schneeberger of Hunterville, NC with husband Jeremiah and children Ellen (Isaac) Kunkel, Peter (Rebecca) Schneeberger and Michael (Amy) Schneeberger; great grandchildren Julia, Sarah and Joseph Lawton, Nicholas and Katie Carozza, John, Megan, and Caroline Kunkel, Erin and Joseph Schneeberger. A Prayer Service was held at McInerny Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at 10:15 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church with Father Jeremiah Moynihan officiating. The Liturgy of the Word was led by granddaughters, Sue Lawton (Old Testament reading), Ellen Kunkel (Responsorial Psalm) and Sarah Leahy (New Testament reading). Father Moynihan read the Gospel and delivered the Homily. Prayers of the Faithful were led by granddaughter Ann Leahy. Great-grandchildren, John and Megan Kunkel and Erin Schneeberger presented the Offertory Gifts. Music was led by organist Mary Montanarella and soloist Sue Amisano. Remarks of Remembrance were given by Andrew Carozza. Interment followed at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery with Father Moynihan leading the committal prayers. Pallbearers were grandsons; Andrew Carozza, Matt Carozza, Isaac Kunkel, Richard Lawton, Thomas Leahy III, Michael Schneeberger and Peter Schneeberger.

Marie F. Of The Villages, Florida, formerly of 96 Greenridge Drive, Elmira, New York, passed away on March 2, 2005. Survivors include sisters, Kathryn J. MacNamara of The Villages, Florida, and Rita F. Francey, Punta Gorda, Florida. She was predeceased by her brother, William S. MacNamara. Marie was a graduate of Elmira College, Elmira, New York, held a Master's degree from Cornell University, and had a Ford Foundation Fellowship at Chicago University for one year. She taught in the Cooperstown High School, Elmira Free Academy, and Elmira College. Marie was on the Board of the Friends of the Library and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, AAUW, and the Wednesday Morning Club in Elmira. Burial will be at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery in Elmira, New York.

Darwin Age 66, of Wellsburg, NY, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2006, at his home due to natural causes. Darwin was born in Elmira, son of the late Clarence and Gladys (Roberts) Manwaring. Darwin retired from Corning Inc., in Corning, NY after 35+ years of service as an electrician. He was a member of the Local Union 1000, Local Union 139 IBEW, Chemung County Emergency Protective Force and the VFW Post# 901, Horseheads American Legion Post # 442. Darwin was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was well known as a CB enthusiast with his handle being "Wires". Survivors include daughters, Lori (Jerry) Venesky of PA, Mary Jo (Harry) Varner of GA; son, Erik (Tara) Manwaring of PA; grandchildren, Rebecca, Joseph, Casey, Alex, Dana and Mikey; sisters, Darlene Ayers, Sharron Caccia and Katherine Kinner; brothers, Dale, J., Vincent, Clarence, Michael, Frank Manwaring, Jack and Lance Luther, Bruce and Keith DelMage; close uncle and aunt, Sid and Vaughn; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, January 5, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. James. F. Age 64 of Elmira died Sunday, May 16, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Jim was born October 22, 1939, a son of William T. and Irene McCarthy McCann. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce Nivison McCann, with whom he would have celebrated 42 years of marriage on June 2nd; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Nick Anthony Volino of Elmira with children Anthony and Michaela; Karen A. McCann of Rochester, NY; Carolyn A. and Gregory Schutrum of Elmira, with children Brittany and Victoria; and Bernadette A. McCann-Patelunas and Eric Patelunas of Elmira with children, Kiersten, Aaron James and Andrew James; brother and sister-in-law William E. and Joan McCann of Elmira; sister Helen M. Dean of Elmira; several nieces and nephews and Brandy, his faithful dog. Jim is predeceased by his brother-in-law Robert Dean. Jim worked in the grocery business as a store manager for 35 years. Most of those years were spent working for Grand Union in Elmira and then for Great American in Sayre, PA. After retiring from the grocery business Jim went to work for the Elmira City School District as a custodian at George Washington School, but kept his hand in the grocery business by working part time at Top's Market in Elmira. Jim's family was his life and he was devoted to his grandchildren. Palmer, Richard "Dick" Age 76 of Horseheads passed away unexpected, Tues. Apr. 8, 2014 at home. Born on Jan. 15, 1938 in Elmira; son of the late, William F. & Reva Morse Palmer. Dick served in the US Army from 1961-1963. He was employed for 36 years at Hillard Corp. An outdoorsman, Dicks many interests included, camping, fishing, canoeing and hunting. He was a former scout master and a member of Sullivan Trail Gun Club. Surviving are his loving children, Eric Palmer, Christopher (Tammy Ribble) Palmer, Joyelle (Brandon) Palmer Briggs; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Heather, Brynne, Justin, Alexis, Trae, and DeAnte; mother of his children, Joy (Walt) Myers. Dorothy E., Age 90, of Elmira passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Dorothy was born on August 15, 1912 in Dansville NY, the daughter of the late Fiske and Emma Marshall Harter. She married Gerald Pritchard on December 21, 1935. She was a life long member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Elmira, where she remained very active over the years. She was a member of the Harmony & Winola Lodges, the Card Club, worked at the election polling stations, enjoyed gardening, nature, and flowers. Dorothy loved animals and was one of their greatest supporters. Surviving is her loving husband of 67 years, Gerald, sons, Roy (Elizabeth) Pritchard of Cheshire, CT, Loren Pritchard of Horseheads, daughters, Kay (William) Rice of Montour Falls, Norma (Robert) Carl of Elmira, brother, Percy Harter of TX., grandchildren, Linda and Stephen Pritchard, Stacey DeAngelis, Mark, Dennis and Holly Rice, Hillary and Janine Geiger, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Harold and Marshall Harter. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2002 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 356 W. Thurston St., Elmira from 2-4PM. Funeral Services will be held following (4PM) with the Rev. Patrick Holder officiating and Lay Pastor Fred Edmister assisting. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira. William J., Age 89 of Elmira, NY and Sarasota, FL entered into rest at home on Friday, July 18, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. Bill was born Nov. 30, 1913 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Michael and Harriet Brown Wipfler. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorcas West Wipfler, and by his brother, John M. Wipfler. Surviving are his loving wife, Eleanor Jones Wipfler; his sons, William M. Wipfler of Seneca Lake and Robert W. (Alice) Wipfler of Bethesda, MD; daughter, Julie A. (Barney) Bohland of Elmira; step-daughter, Sharie Laine Jones of Elmira; sisters, Jane Longwell of Lakewood, OH and Mary Layton of Elmira; grandchildren, Robert, Michael and Sara Wipfler, Theodore Bohland, Holly and Katie Wipfler, Lesley Wipfler Reiman; great granddaughter, Bridget Reiman; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a community of loving friends. Bill was a US Army veteran, serving as a lieutenant during WW II. He retired from the Elmira City School District in 1977 with 38 years of service as an educator, coach and athletic director. Philomena J. (Cantando) Age 66, of Elmira passed away peacefully at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Saturday, May 14, 2005, with her devoted and loving husband Robert M. "Bob" Woods by her side and surrounded by her family. Born January 5, 1939, Philomena is the daughter of the late John Boniface and Lucia Bonsignore Cantando. Philomena was extremely proud of her Italian heritage which was displayed in her passion for cooking and enthusiasm for her children and grandchildren. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony's most of her life; but currently a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes, where she and Bob volunteered for many church events. Philomena is a retired hairdresser owner/operator of the Phil's House of Alto Salon at AOMC for 17 years. Philomena and Bob volunteered through RSVP, the Arctic League, and the Samaritan Center. Philomena enjoyed her many flower gardens. She and Bob spent their summers camping at Clute Park on Seneca Lake. Philomena is predeceased by her sister and best friend, Rose Mary Cantando Hamilton and brothers, Dominic and Anthony Cantando. She is survived by her devoted and loyal husband Robert "Bob" M. Woods of Elmira. The legacy she leaves to carry on are seven children, fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchildâ€¦..son Charles M. Woods with wife Susan L.
